Korean Seafood Pancakes

Scallion or green onion pancakes are incredibly popular in Korea, especially when the weather is bad, as they are enjoyed as a comfort food. They are usually eaten with a dipping sauce and some kind of seafood. You’ll likely come across many popular pancake iterations, or ‘jeon’ as they are known in Korea, with ‘haemul pajeon’ or seafood scallion pancakes among the most beloved. This particular pancake recipe is inspired by this popular dish, so you can enjoy a delicious, authentic taste of Korea at home.

Ingredients for Snow Crab Scallion Pancakes

Pancakes

  • 4 tbsp potato starch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1.5 cups plain flour
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 2 bunches of scallions/spring onions
  • 1 red chilli
  • 1 pack snow crab

Sauce

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
  • 3 tsp chilli flakes

How to Make Snow Crab Scallion Pancakes

  1. In a bowl, mix the potato starch, baking powder, turmeric, salt, flour and water to form a smooth batter.
  2. Cut the scallions into 1-inch slices and add to the pancake batter. Also add the chilli, cut into thin strips.
  3. Mix in flakes of snow crab.
  4. Make the sauce by combining all the sauce ingredients in a bowl, mixing until combined.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan before adding scoops of your pancake batter. Cook on both sides for several minutes, until crispy.
