Recipe - Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream 抹茶アイスクリーム
Matcha green tea ice cream is a japanese flavoured ice cream which blends ice cream with matcha powder to give a creamy, bitter yet sweet ice cream.
Matcha ice cream is not only popular in Japan but very popular around the world and can been seen on the dessert menu in almost every Japanese restaurant or cafe.
Below is a quick and easy recipe for making matcha ice cream. * Please note: an ice cream making machine is needed.
Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients:
- 240ml Whole Milk
- 240ml Whipping Cream
- 18g Matcha Powder
- 100g Sugar
- Pinch of Salt
Method:
- Freeze the ice cream bowl for 24hrs
- In a saucepan whisk together the milk, cream, sugar and salt
- Start cooking the mixture over a medium heat and add the matcha powder. Stir the mixture often until it starts to foam but not boiling.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl sitting in an ice bath. Once cool, cover with cling film and put the fridge for 2-3 hrs.
- Once the mixture is cool, place in your ice cream maker and start to churn. Transfer the soft ice cream to a container and freeze for another 3 hrs before serving.
