Korean Bulgogi Recipe
Sara Yang
Beef bulgogi is a Korean barbeque beef recipe that is perfect for both those looking for a taste of home or those who are looking for an introduction to Korean cooking. Korean BBQ, or gogi gui, refers to the Korean method of grilling meat, such as beef, pork or chicken. Bulgogi is the most common form of Korean BBQ and is typically made from thin slices of sirloin or other prime cuts of beef. Our recipe makes use of a sauce jar to make the recipe even easier for you to make at home. If you prep the meat and marinade in advance, the cooking time for this meal only takes a few minutes, making it the perfect choice for a quick mid-week treat! Find the ingredients you need at our Korean supermarket online in the UK !You will need:
- 700g of boneless rib-eye steak (or other cuts of meats, like sirloin or pork belly)
- 1x 290g jar of Beksul Bulgogi Sauce (beef or pork versions available)
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Method:
- Place the steaks in plastic wrap and pop them in the freezer for around 30 minutes. Unwrap the steaks and slice them across the grain that they are around ¼-inch thick slices.
- Place the steaks in a sealable freezer bag and pour the bulgogi sauce from the jar in with the steaks. Mix it together a little, then close the bag and leave to marinate for at least 2 hours, or overnight. Occasionally turn the bag to ensure the meat is well coated.
- Using a cast iron grill pan or skillet, heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil on a medium-high heat. In batches, add the steak to the grill pan and cook until charred on the outside and cooked through inside. It should take about two minutes per side. Repeat using the remaining vegetable oil and meat.
- Dish up the meat and top with a sprinkling of green onions and sesame seeds.
