Jjapaguri Ram-Don Recipe – Parasite Noodles
Instant noodles are easy to prepare and are the ultimate comfort food. Jjapaguri is a particularly notable noodle dish that grew in popularity after it appeared in the Korean film Parasite, which won best picture at the 2020 Oscars. The original version of the dish had been popular for some years before featuring in the movie, but since the film’s success, even more people have been enjoying it. We’ve partnered up with @mins.cook on Instagram to bring you a super simple recipe that’ll have you creating this famous dish at home!
What is Jjapaguri?
Jjapaguri or ram-don combines two renowned noodle brands, Chapagetti and Neoguri, blending their respective black bean and spicy seafood flavours for a rich and satisfying bite. The movie upgrades this basic noodle dish with Hanwoo beef, a very expensive cut. The addition of beef is optional when making jjapaguri, as it’s more of a nod to the movie than how the noodles are typically eaten.
Jjapaguri Ingredients
- 1 packet of Chapagetti noodles
- 1 packet of Neoguri noodles
- 1 serving of steak
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp mirin
- 1 tsp Maggi seasoning
- Pinch of salt & pepper
- Dash of chilli oil
How to Make Jjapaguri
- Marinate the steak with sauces and seasoning before cooking over a high heat for several minutes until just cooked through. Set aside.
- Bring a large pot of water to the boil before adding both packets of noodles and cooking for 3 minutes.
- Strain most of the water until just enough water to cover all the noodles.
- Add the noodle seasoning sachets and mix well.
- Add the steak to your noodles and serve in a bowl.
