The Umai Oriental Street Food Cafe

Food enthusiasts have been enjoying Oriental Mart’s ingredients and produce since 2006 and in recent years have been able to experience an abundance of East Asian food in the Umai Oriental Street Food Café . Located within the Oriental Mart store in Nottingham , the café has been open since 2018 and instantly became a favourite with customers and critics alike.The café was a winner at the 2019/2020 Good Food Awards and we’re looking forward to furthering its success with its nomination for the next awards.

Popular Dishes

The Umai Oriental Street Food Café offers to take your tastebuds on a tour of South East Asia with a variety of dishes from Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China . With so much to choose from, it can be hard to decide where to start. Here are some of our favourites from the cafe!

Chinese Steamed Buns

These light and fluffy buns are a staple throughout China and are traditionally served with a mouthwatering crispy duck or vegetable filling.

Gyozas

These dumplings are a favourite in Japan but are enjoyed across many parts of Eastern Asia. Wrapped in a delicate dough and filled with ground meat and flavoursome vegetables, these gyozas are a treat for everyone.

Korean Fried Chicken

This dish is known for its crispy coating and heavenly sauce . With a plate full of flavours and textures, you can’t go wrong with a serving of some addictive Korean Fried Chicken, often nicknamed ‘candy-chicken’.

Yakisoba Noodles

Bubble Teas

To wash down these amazing dishes, you may want to try a bubble tea, which the in-store café also serves. This drink, also known as Boba or Pearl Milk Tea , originates from Taiwan and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. The jelly-like tapioca balls can be accompanied by either milk or fruit-based teas . Bubble teas come in a variety of flavours to suit everyone’s tastes!

Okonomiyaki

Our speciality, this dish comprises of a delicious savoury Japanese pancake . The simple but tasty recipe of shredded cabbage, flour, eggs and water can be adapted to include many toppings and sauces including a special okonomiyaki sauce, Japanese mayo and dried seaweed or bonito flakes.
