7 Best Soju Cocktails to Make at Home
Soju is Korea’s most popular alcoholic drink and has become a firm favourite of people all over the world. With a wide variety of flavours available, there are many ways to enjoy this beverage – not to mention the endless cocktail possibilities.
We’ve rounded up some of our favourite soju cocktail ideas that are super easy to make at home. Most of them just require your favourite soju and a couple of easy-to-get-hold-of additions – no long-winded prep here!
1. Yoghurt Soju Cocktail
This is one of the most popular soju cocktails – so popular, in fact, that you can buy bottles of yoghurt-flavoured soju without having to make up the cocktail. However, if you do want to experience the full cocktail mix, it’s super easy to prepare.
- Mix equal parts soju, Sprite or 7 Up and Yakult (or any other Korean yoghurt drink) in a glass.
- Add ice, and enjoy!
For a classic flavour, you can use original soju, but any flavour will work well if you want to mix it up.
2. Soju Mojito
A fresh and refreshing twist on a classic, this soju-take on what’s usually a rum-based cocktail offers a new way to embrace these fragrant flavours.
- Add a handful of fresh mint leaves (around 5), the juice of around half a lime and 1.5tbsp of sugar (more or less to taste as desired) to a cocktail shaker and shake/mix until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add ice to a glass and pour over your soju (around a third of a bottle, or more/less, depending on how strong you want it).
- Mix in the mint and lime mixture and top up with sparkling water or Sprite.

3. Watermelon Soju Cocktail
Another popular option is this watermelon-themed cocktail for a sweet, refreshing treat that’s great for gatherings and parties. Again, you could use regular soju or watermelon soju for an even more intense flavour.
- For this cocktail, you will need to scoop out the flesh of a watermelon and whizz it in a blender until it becomes a puree.
- You can put this through a sieve to get rid of any lumps.
- Combine equal parts watermelon juice and soju in a glass. You could also add Sprite if you fancy a bit of fizz.
- Serve with ice and enjoy with friends! If you’re having a gathering, it can be fun to serve the drink in half of the emptied watermelon.
4. Soju Lemonade
Soju combines wonderfully with citrusy flavours, balancing these tangy tastes and enhancing them.
- Combine 1 part soju with 2 parts fresh lemonade in a glass.
- Serve with ice and a lemon wedge!
This one is super simple but offers some tasty results, perfect for relaxing on a sunny afternoon! Why not try throwing some citron soju in the mix for an extra zesty option?
5. Somaek/ Soju Bomb
Somaek, also known as a soju bomb, is another very popular way to enjoy soju, especially when out drinking with friends. Here’s how you can recreate this soju and beer combo at home.
- Pour your chosen beer into a pint glass.
- Arrange two chopsticks on top of the glass.
- Pour some soju into a shot glass and balance this on the chopsticks.
- Slam your hands on the table and watch the shot topple into the beer! Or, you can just drop your shot in.

6. Apple Soju Cocktail
There’s nothing better than the crisp sweetness of apples, which is another flavour that works deliciously with soju. This cocktail goes down easy and is a great choice if you’re new to the world of soju.
- Add equal parts apple soju, apple juice and Sprite or sparkling water.
- Mix together and add ice.
- Serve with a wedge of lemon.
7. Strawberry Soju Cocktail
Another option doing the rounds at the moment is the various versions of strawberry soju cocktails. Often these drinks will combine the soju with Yakult or another creamy drink like Calpis – strawberry flavour is ideal, of course!
- Add a couple of chopped strawberries and ice to a glass and mix so some of the strawberry bits get crushed.
- Add 1.5 shots of strawberry soju and 2 shots of strawberry Calpis or Yakult to the glass.
- Top up the glass with sparkling water or Sprite if desired.
If you end up using strawberry Calpis, you might want to use regular soju for a more toned-down strawberry flavour.
